I did a similar thing unknowingly. I brought a mouse home in the bag we had taken to a harvest festival to pick corn that we kept putting down to pick. The kids and I came into the door put the bag down grabed a drink and my husband came in and said I don't want to alarm you but there is a mouse sitting half in and out of the bag. Before any of us could move the mouse was across the floor

Get some food, put it in your bathtub at night, leave something beside the tub that the mouse can climb on. It will fall in the tub, but might not be able to get back out. That's how we caught an escaped hamster when I was a little girl.
